mac semi precious goodies!!

so as i'm sure you all know... mac's latest collection is called semi-precious and consists of a boat load of mineralized products. after careful consideration i chose two goodies and i'm very impressed with my selections!!

first up i got the mineralized blush in pressed amber. i was intrigued by the simple brown color and thought it would make a wonderful light wash on the cheeks for those "natural" days... or a nice contour. and yes i was right!! it is the most AMAZING contour color!!!! beware though... this is so soft and pigmented! a light hand is a necessity.

i LOVE that it is not overly warm on my skin!!

i also HAD to pick up a mineralized skin finish to add to my collection. i had heard that semi precious crystal pink was very similar to by candlelight (from warm and cozy) which i missed out on... so, naturally i went straight for it at the counter.

a closer look... i was a bit put off by the center part as it looks kind of odd, but once i swatched it i forgot all about that. hello gorgeousness!!

the swatches... loveliest highlight ever! a light pink/peach frost with minimal glitter and just the right amount of sheen. the center works well as a blush on it's own. LOVE!

happy summer dollfaces! i had to go to three different rite aids (don't judge me), but i was finally able to get my hands on some of the summer goodies from New York Color (NYC).

here they are:

I picked up both of the 16hr. smooch proof lip stains and the blushable cremestick in gold radiance.

a closer look...

i have really been into lip stains lately and these two do not disappoint. tropic tan is a gorgeous bright pink shade. perfect to go under a clear gloss (with spf) and hit the beach.

coral reef is divine. it's a beautiful fruit punch colored stain that i have reached for several times over the past week. this works as an amazing base for a bright red lip.

what can i say about gold radiance? gorgeous! and with a tan? amaze-balls. what a wonderful addition to the drugstore makeup lineup... finally a highlighter!! also works wonderfully when mixed with a bit of lotion to add some shimmer to your shoulders on a hot summer night.

i'm incredibly impressed. NYC has done it again. the lipstains don't last 16 hrs. (does anything?!) ha. i have used coral reef more than the other two, but it's still early summer!!

THE lipstick for spring!

okay dollfaces! so i have finally purchased my new HG lipstick. it is an absolutely gorgeous coral from MAC called Ever Hip. i missed it when it was released with the liberty of london collection last year, but i would be d*mned if i was going to miss it when it was re-released with the fashion flower collection this year! here it is...

omg! it's so beautiful!! it's a cremesheen which means it doesn't last long on the lips. reapplication is necessary, but so worth it! i will be doing a video detailing how i wear this to intensify the color so stay tuned. it is absolutely THE color for spring!!

i love wearing red polish! and i always tend to forget how much i love wearing red polish until i pop it on my nails. well now i've gone and done it... i have found the most perfect red ever! it is not too orange and not too blue. it applies smoothly and dries quickly. most importantly it is the most wonderful christmas red!!

hiya dollfaces! so i'm a bad blogger what can i say?! i've been working about 60 hours a week and it's been kickin' my butt! hope you are all well and fabulous! i wanted to pop in and show you my favorite polish of the moment.

this month is shop-my-stash november (my own doing)... i've decided that any excess money needs to go for christmas gifts and such.. so no makeup buying this month!! luckily, i picked this gem up before november began...

it is sally hansen x-treme wear in concrete. it is a dusty/lilac/greige and i LOVE it! applies evenly, dries quickly and was almost opaque in one coat! the best part is it stayed on with no chips for about 8 days! lovely.

if you love the color as much as i do you must try to find it soon... i believe it is limited edition.

as you know i was a winner in the illamasqua design your own nail varnish competition and guess what...

i got a little package today from...

with a lovely note...

in it were the three winning shades from the create your own nail varnish competition 2010...

i got these two beauties...

and what i've been waiting months to get my hands (and fingernails) on!! here it is...

here is my baby! raindrops!!! a wonderful creamy gray...

what i love:

the color is just exactly as i wanted
the shade is versatile. you can wear it on the sheer side (which is how they wear it in the new art of darkness campaign) or you can build it up to be more opaque. i'm sure you can even do a sheer wash over another color for a cool effect.
the application is smooth and easy... even the box-like applicator was easy to use!
each coat dries within 3 minutes!
it's MINE!! hehe

what i don't love:
the "irregular" glitter in it threw me off a bit because it looked like air bubbles at first... however, the more and more i look at the more it looks exactly like tiny raindrops have landed on my nails!
it took 5 coats to get the opaque shade i wanted because the formula is so sheer (this is overlooked because it dried so quickly).

all in all i love my polish! this beauty will be available at illamasqua counters, illamasqua.com, sephora.com and select sephora stores in october 2010 as part of the art of darkness collection!! i hope you try it dollfaces! i am over the moon right now!

rimmel makes me wanna pucker up

hiya dollfaces! i just wanted to take a second and sing the praises for a drugstore brand of lipsticks... they are the moisture renew lipcolors from rimmel. i am loving these right now! here are the five i have (complete with swatches):

what i love:
1. the price! these lipsticks run about $6.99 (and drugstores are always having buy one get one half off or 40% off deals)
2. the color selection! don't quote me on this, but there were at least 20 to choose from at my local cvs. it's great because you can try out different colors without breaking the bank! success!
3. the texture! they are creamy and easy to apply and do not feel like your wearing a heavy lipstick at all. ** a note here... mauve pink is the exception to this. it has glitter in it which makes it appear glossy on the lips, but which lingers once the lippie has worn off **
4. SPF! each lippie has an spf of 18. nice!
5. pigmentation! all of mine are rich and fully pigmented. yay!

what i don't love:
1. the wear! they are definitely not long lasting. i would say maybe an hour without touch ups.
2. the glitter! if mauve pink has glitter in it then i'm sure other colors do and i am not a fan of that at all.

all in all they are great products and fun to use. have you tried them?? and what are your favorite colors?? vintage pink is definitely the stand out for me! LOVE! and red alert is what you need for an in-your-face red lip!!

hiya dollfaces! sorry for being such a slacker! i have been putting a lot of effort into my youtube channel and not enough here. my apologies! i have been waiting till fall to rock some dark teal nails, but i couldn't wait any longer!! so today i have a notd featuring a standout nail color from sinful colors new fall collection called stormy. it is gorgeous. depending on the light it can look black, dark teal and almost emerald with flecks of blue. it's a very mysterious color and i love it! even better... i love the price $1.99 at rite aid! you may have to hunt it down though... i got the last bottle at my store and have visited several others and it is always the one sold out of the display. i hope it's not limited edition! anyhoo here are the pics.

what color nails are you rockin' for fall??

hiya dollfaces! so when i went to vegas a couple of weeks ago i wanted to do something a little different on my toes so i did an experiment... zebra toes! i've always loved zebra print and figured it would be easiest to attempt on my toenails as i could use my right hand the entire time.

here's what i used (both from icing). the black is just one of their nail art paints and the green is called daddy's trust fund baby and is a dupe for sephora by opi's leaf him at the alter.

i put two coats of green down and then alternated stripes starting heavy on the edges and then lighter toward the center. i loved the effect.

the best part is they don't have to be perfect! p.s. this look has lasted me 3 weeks without chipping! still looks awesome. yay!

doll love: HG foundation... for now, at least!

hiya dollfaces! hope you are all wonderful and zany on this friday the 13th! the topic o'the day is foundation. here's my thing about foundation. i have decent skin as far as spots go (although hormonal breakouts are always part of the joy of a certain time of the month)... when i seek out a foundation i want light to medium coverage, basically, to even out my skintone. i also feel that foundation is just part of a well put together face for me. i don't really care to shell out the $$$ for higher end foundations as i'm sure there are many in the drugstore that will do the job (and do it well!)

i'm sure i will begin to delve into higher end foundations at some point, but for now i have found my HG foundation and it can be found at your local cvs! LOVE IT! here it is...

it's the maybelline dream smooth mousse foundation and it is amazing! it comes in a small round disk-like container which when opened looks like this... (forgive the brush marks i use a 187 to apply)

what i love:
1. if you buy this foundation at cvs they have testers! yes, testers in a drugstore!! and therefore i was able to match my skin perfectly.
2. in correlation with number 1... since this product matches me perfectly (and i use a 187) it takes only a little bit of product to take care of my entire face. LOVE!
3. since it's a cream/mousse formula you don't make a mess everytime you put on make up... spilling out too much and what not.
4. it has buildable coverage... if i want to make this a full coverage foundation i can
5. gives skin a glowy (but not oily) finish that makes skin look very healthy

what i don't love:
1. the sponge that comes with it is eeh! so i use a 187 to apply and then the sponge to sort of dab over and make sure all the product is blended well
2. i need a setting powder to keep the "glow" at bay after application
3. after a few hours the "glow" turns into shine on my skin so i definitely have to blot and re-apply powder

also, i should mention that for me this has the staying power of about 8 hours, but that's perfectly fine for me right now as my skin is a bit on the oily side due to heat. and to be fair it does say "hydrating" on the label so i'm sure it's not really made for oily skin, but i love it anyway! :)

all in all i adore this foundation! i'm not sure if all drugstores are carrying this just yet, but when they get it in stock i encourage you to try it! it is an excellent value and a delightful foundation!

doll love: NAKED

hiya dollfaces! as promised here are my swatches of the NAKED palette by Urban Decay. i LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!! and really have used it pretty much every day since i got it... which was about a month ago. if you love neutral looks this is the palette to end all palettes. the colors are smooth, very pigmented and blendable. the majority of the colors have a sheen/shimmer to them... i personally love that because i feel it brings light to the eyes. my love for urban decay eye shadows continues to grow and flourish with this palette! it is amazing and i cannot say enough good things about it!

and now for the swatches... i have NW25 skin (for reference).

virgin - light whitish pink ** fantastic highlight color and great for inner corner too
sin - pink champagne shimmer **LOVE it!! brightens the whole eye
naked - lighter warm brown **excellent for blend out color!
sidecar - shimmery warm brown with gold glitter **kind of like a frosty naked

buck - mid-tone warm brown **another great color for blending out
half baked - gold shimmer **not my favorite, but a nice addition to the palette
smog - shimmery mid-toned warm brown **kind of like a frosty buck
darkhorse - not shimmery but has gold flecks ** lovely in the crease

toasted - gold and warm brown shimmer ** nice color to bring light to the eye
hustle - plum based brown **amazing crease color
creep - deep gray/black ** in the pan looks glittery, but doesn't show on skin
gunmetal - dark silver gray shimmer **fabulous smokey eye staple

my first swap & n.o.t.d.

hiya dollfaces!! recently i did a swap with the gorgeous sarah who has this amazing blog, i heart cosmetics and this wonderful youtube channel . we both did videos all about the swap... if you want to see our videos here is mine and here is hers.

the main reason we were swapping was we both we itching for nail varnishes. she wanted sephora by opi and i wanted models own! if you have read my blog for awhile you know that i have been wanting to try models own nail varnishes for a loooong time and now i don't have to wait any longer.

without further adieu... here are my first nails of the day with models own!! this is lilac dream and it is beautiful. it applies quite smoothly and 2 coats lasted me a week without chipping. love it!

mac/rodarte: my take

** i try to keep this blog as fun as makeup is, but this topic has gotten under my skin... and maybe not for the reason you're thinking...

i'm sure you've heard all about this whole mac/rodarte controversy and what not. i just wanted to take a second and chime in. it's really irritating that mac are being chided for "only" making a $100,000 donation. if it really p*sses people off that much then why aren't they making their own donations? perhaps any monies that they would have spent on this line...

i look at it like this... mac either:

1. really had no clue when they named the nail polish or lipstick or whatever and, therefore, are being super cool in donating money now that people have brought it to their attention

or (the more likely)...

2. mac is an empire. it's a business people. and that business prides itself on marketing. perhaps they knew EXACTLY what they were doing and wanted to shine some light on the plight of the women of juarez.

and, if the latter is the case, then beauty bloggers and everyone else who is up in arms should be finding a useful charity and making donations that will actually go to those women... or, better yet, find out which companies manufacture their products in these hell holes and stop buying them.

don't put it as mac's responsibility to donate all profits to this cause. i think that is highly unfair. i also believe anyone who says they will boycott this line will go right back to the counter when venomous villains comes out or when they run out of their studio fix foundation and that is highly hypocritical if one is so upset with mac.

this is my take. mac provided a little controversy... that controversy shed some light on a topic that has been swept under the rug for ages... that light made people aware and angry about the topic... and that awareness and anger may actually get people to act... and those acts will create change.

lookie what i got...

hiya dollfaces!! it's nordstrom anniversary time again and this year MAC had two great brush sets... one for eyes and one for face. as i have been itching to try their face brushes i went for that set and am completely in like! here's what the set looks like... and yes, it comes with a brush roll!

it comes with a 194 concealer brush... which doubles quite nicely as a lip brush (thanks brandi for mentioning that).

i had been waiting to purchase a 168 blush/contour brush because i knew that this set was coming and i absolutely love it!!

it also comes with the 190 foundation brush and i have been using this to apply concealer under my eyes and blend. it's pretty soft and glides nicely over the skin.

the reason i got the brush set was this beauty. the 187 stippling duo fiber brush. i use this to apply my foundation. i have to say i like it, but i'm not in love with it. :( the hairs are too long and i wish it was more dense. alas, that is why i bought the set... to see what i might want to purchase in full size... the 168? yes! the 187? no.

all in all it will make a great travel set. i will just switch out the 190 and the 194 for a 239 and a 224 and be out the door!

this is weekend rendezvous from Icing and it is the perfect summertime polish shade. a wonderful coral pink made to compliment a summer glow (err... which i have yet to obtain).. but even now in my paleness it still looks lovely! if you haven't tried the Icing polishes i suggest you get thee to a mall a.s.a.p. sooooooo worth it!!

hiya dollfaces!! i'm always on the hunt for a good primer. a few months ago i visited seattle and after alittle sephora haulage came home with this primer right here.

it is the sephora brand base zero brillance anti-shine primer. i am always on the search for a primer that keeps my oily skin shine in check. i'm not looking for a miracle worker that stops oil production forever. all i ask is that it cut down my mid-afternoon shine. and this baby does the trick. after washing my face and letting my moisturizer soak in - this is key- i apply a pea sized amount like so...

i only apply primer to my t-zone and leave the drier skin of my cheeks to fend for itself. i let that soak in and then apply foundation as per usual.

here are my observations...

pros:

blends in easily and soaks in completely

controls shine for about 4 to 5 hours

very light feeling

doesn't interfere with regular makeup

sanitary tube

excellent value! one tube is about $18 and it has lasted me over 5 months so far!

cons:

it does melt! be careful storing it during the summer months!

don't store it on its head! it may pour out! store it by lying the tube down.

if you use a matte foundation, it may take some work to blend into skin that has been primed. just wet a sponge with water or fix+ and blend. not a huge problem.

this is purely an anti-shine primer. it does not fill in pores or create a smooth base for easy foundation application.

awesome product if you are inclined to shiny noses! a must have for the upcoming summer months. definitely try it out and let me know how it goes!

hiya dollfaces!! here is a look i did for work the other day... can i just say how happy zebra print makes me?! ha. i used mainly urban decay shadows. the truth is i ADORE urban decay shadows... **correction... i ADORE their shadows that aren't filled with glitter!** they are well pigmented and blend beautifully. the majority of their colors have a sheen to them which brings light to your eyes! many think that is a negative as it may lead to shine overload, but somedays i'm just in the mood for some sheen to brighten up my look. a good lot of my favorite eyeshadows come from UD! here's the look... kind of a hearkening back to the 80's annie's way!

on my eyes: UD shadow - strip all over the lid and along the lower lash line
UD shadow - jabberwocky (alice in wonderland book of shadows) in outer corner and crease
MAC shadow - silver ring to blend out into highlight
MAC shadow - hush as highlight
UD 24/7 liner - zero along lashline and in waterline
MAC - opulash as mascara

hiya dollfaces!! if you are like me, you realize the importance of a well moisturized eye area... this helps to prevent lines and wrinkling... not to mention... it helps your concealer glide on better! i have been on a quest for a light, yet still moisturizing, eye cream for years! most of the time eye creams are too oily and cause my sensitive eyes mucho irritation. me thinks i've found a solution to this oily problem. yay!

this is the garnier nutritioniste skin renewal anti-fatigue eye cream and it is FABULOUS!!!

here is what garnier says:

"Boosts surface-cell regeneration to diminish dark circles and puffiness around the eye area."

this is a light cream that is ultra moisturizing. after i wash and moisturize my face, i take a small drop and apply to my undereye skin and lightly all over the lid. yes, it is one more step to add to your skin routine, but the eye area should not be overlooked (pun intended)! and my skin drinks it up!! it makes my eye area noticeably softer and line-free. i have been using this product for about a month and i LOVE it!! however, i cannot testify to the "diminishing of dark circles"... i think lots of sleep and drinking loads of water have more power in that arena!!

hiya dollfaces! so i did a bit of haulin' at the mac counter (shocking but true) here are the goods:

i got the mac brush cleanser which i am really please with. it is fantastic for everyday cleanup... especially after using dark colors! i deep clean once a week with baby shampoo and my brushes are very satisfied.

i also picked up a bottle of fix+ which i can't stop using. i use it to set my makeup and i'll spray it on a brush, swipe it in some shadow and BAM! insta-eyeliner!

as you probably know i also picked up the brand new mascara OPULASH and am completely in love with it!!! i hope you have entered my giveaway!!

now onto the makeup-makeup...

this is the beautiful bright fuscia-ish pink called speak louder. it is a cremesheen formula and is gorgeous. i wasn't particularly in the mood for a bright pink lipstick, but my mac mua/good friend pointed it out to me as her pick of the day and i was sold! i look forward to wearing this when i'm tan!!

next up i got two things from the art supplies collection. first up... which has been all the rage, apparently, on youtube and blogs is a greasepaint stick in dirty!

this is my first foray into the greasepaint sticks and i'm in love! it is a wonderful taupey gray and it works extremely well as a base, liner, outer corner and crease color. it is water resistant and is a limited edition... go out and buy at least one... the colors are fantastic!! me thinks i may get two more this week! p.s. you can pull the end off that shows the color of the stick and you will find a sharpener there!! yay!

and last, but not least...
the pearlglide liners are amazing! the one that stuck out to me most was almost noir... it is a magnificent bordeaux color with gold shimmer. so incredibly beautiful and perfect to give your everyday look a little something extra.

hiya dollfaces! so my mac has officially debuted the newest addition to their mascara lineup and it's called OPULASH! doesn't that just sound fabulous?! i feel priveledged because it's not supposed to hit counters until may 27th... but through a twist of fate and a nordstrom exclusive it is mine...

the word on the street, about this baby, is that it rivals dior show mascara... unfortunately, i can't justify spending $25+ on mascara so i wouldn't know, but when mac offers me an alternative i would be stupid to not take them up on it. naturally i HAD to have it!

here's what mac has to say about the product:

"Big, fat, full, bouffant lashes! Dramatic density and curl achieved with a giant brush! Fibers go in all directions for thick, rich, even application with no clumping. Long-wearing formula—up to 15 hours—quickly thickens lashes root to tip."

here is the beauty

the short is i LOVE this product! it is volumizing (as you will see in the following pics). it goes on thin, but is very buildable without looking clumpy! the pics below are with 1 (yes i said one) coat and a little curl with my shu uemora curler! the best part of this mascara is it does not flake!!! i find, with many of my mascaras, after 8 hours of wear i begin to find flakes on my cheeks and under my eyes. a definite deal breaker for me... but that is not the case with this gem. admittedly, i am a mascara person and i definitely think this is my new HG.

hiya dollfaces! so you know those days when the only thing that will make you happy is a new nail polish? well, that was me on thursday... so off to sally i went! the main reason i went was to find something alittle lighter than flyin' high... which i reviewed earlier and looks alittle something like this..

i found what i was looking for in this gem...

this is something sweet... it's a lovely light pinkie... i love light pastel shades and this is just beautiful. i'm glad that it is opaque in two coats instead of the pink sheer colors i am used to that take forever to reach the desired shade. 5 stars for china glaze!

this is high hopes... i'm a bit leery of this as it seems very orange-alish on me. but i will wait until i'm more tan and give it another go. it may make a great pedicure shade as well... stay tuned!

hiya dollfaces! it's good friday, but not so good for annie as i have to work... :( this also makes me extra sad because i had planned to enter NV Beauty's bring your A game contest today (my only day off)... but i was backed into a corner and asked to work by my new manager. bummer! next time Nicole... promise!

onto the topic of the day! do you ever just feel blah somedays? those days, you know, you just wanna shake things up?! it gets boring looking at the same face, same clothes yada yada... day in and day out! am i right dolls?!

when this need for change happens we can wear a bold new eyeliner or that fire engine red lipstick we've been saving for a rainy day... or we can be super drastic and cut and dye our hair!! well lately i have been thinking of cutting my bangs... i always tend to do this right be for it gets warm and i know they will irritate the cr*p out of me... not to mention, cause my forehead to break out. so the bangs idea was nixed for now, but i thought of a fun way to curb the craving... clip on fringe! why not fake it?!

i went onto etsy and found a little company that made them from human hair and they were only $8!! SCORE! the only worry i had was would the black match my hair? but they were so reasonably priced i said "what the heck?" i am so glad i got them. the color matches perfectly! although clipping them in took some getting used to. everything takes practice though doesn't it? they are made to be sideswept and that's perfect for me! i have super thick hair, but whenever i cut bangs i can never get them to be as thick as i want so these are great and so much fun. have a look...

neutrogena oil free redness soothing acne wash and gentle scrub

i have had very good results from this range of neutrogena's... i used to use the cream form of this cleanser and then use st. ives apricot scrub, but this combines the two! score!!

suave professionals rosemary mint conditioner
you can't tell from the pic but this bottle is HUGE! i bought it because i have been experimenting with co-washing (washing with conditioner only... which eliminates yucky sulfates from coming into contact with my tresses). the co-washing has been going really well and i'm very happy with my hair these days. this conditioner is a dupe for one of the aveda conditioners so it smells divine. co-washing requires loads and loads of conditioner so this bottle is perfect!

aussie 3 minute miracle smoothing treatment
i use this is conjuction with the rosemary mint... after i've loade up my hair with conditioner i cake this on the ends and let it all sit for a bit.

ms. pedicure exfoliating foot scrub and pumice stone
what can i say... i love having soft feet! : )

mach 3 turbo men's razor
love, love, LOVE!!!!! i've always been partial to men's razors because they get the closest shave! this one is the BEST. hands down.

hi dolls! so i was drawn back to the mac counter to check out the liberty of london collection and ended up splurging on all this. have a looksie!

left to right: lipglass cultured, e/s birds and berries, lipglass perennial high style, msf natural in medium+, and the new 130 brush

this is birds and berries from mac's new liberty of london collection... i had to buy a couple of goodies from the collection because of the supercute packaging! ha. (read: that's how they always get me!) this shade is a winner!! it's a wonderful teal and me likey!! the best part is it's veluxe pearl.. which we all know makes everything better. p.s. i just made my first video for youtube using this... check it out... and subscribe... pretty please?! http://www.youtube.com/user/theanniedollfaceshow

this is the lipglass in perennial high style... i'm in love with the color of this... a glorious peach. however, the formulation just seems a bit sticky and thick (even as far as lipglasses go)! i will muddle through and use it, though, as i'm really into peachy coral lips at the moment. i wouldn't recommend this one, dollfaces.

have you purchased anything from this collection... thoughts??

this is the 130 brush and i bought it because i think i've heard it's limited edition. i haven't figured out all of my personal uses for it so, as of right, now i have been using it to blend my undereye concealer because it is super soft! if you're looking for an all over blending brush for foundation... stick with the 187... this brush is too small.

hello my wonderful dolls!! time for another edition of what was i thinking?! this time it was a polish i have had my eye on for a couple of weeks and have sought out... jade is the new black from the hong kong collection by OPI.

here it is...

it's a lovely shade of green in the bottle. and don't get me wrong it is a fantastic polish! it goes on smoothly and dries quickly. the what was i thinking part comes when the color is paired with my skintone. eek gads! i don't like it at all! it makes my skin take on a yellow cast and that is just not for me.

hi dolls! it's time for another dollnamic duo. and this time it's all about PINK. if you read about my MAC haul you may remember that i purchsed the lip glass true babe (an in your face darkish pink) from the riveting collection... this photographs a bit light compared to in person. it is actually a very wearable color.

well i must have been in a pink state of mind because i immediately went over to icing and purchased a bright pink nail polish in fifi, came right home, and gave myself a mani. now, i'm not gonna lie, this is a crazy color (read day-glow). it photographs rather lackluster here, but everytime i looked down at my nails i thought "i wonder if these glow in the dark?" haha. i think when summertime rolls around and the inevitable tanning ensues this will be a perfect hot pink. it is definitely not a wallflower color, but if you don't mind attention... have at it!

so i put the two side by side and thought they would make a great dollnamic duo. as you can see they aren't matchy matchy, but if i wore that same color on my lips as my nails i would look hideous! the deeper true babe gloss ties in the fifi nail color and give lips a fresh look. i can tell i already have summer on the brain! bring on the pinks!

sephora seattle haulage...

cheers dolls! i'm back from seattle and had a blast with the bestie and her boys! on sunday i was able to steal her away for some funzo time downtown. after a couple emerald drops and rose petal martinis at the W hotel we scuttled over to sephora and let the shopping commence... i got a few things that i have been wanting to try out. first up...

buxom lashliner in suede (dark brown)... i have searched high and low for this in suede and finally found it in the emerald city. i am so excited to try it as it promises lash enhancing and conditioning. i have begun using it and will have a full review after i have used it for a month or so. p.s. used it today and the color is fantastic.

sephora base zero brillance anti-shine primer... i read about this on another blog or heard about it on youtube, but for the life of me i can't remember who i heard it from. BLAST! however, i figured i would try it because my skin tends to get oily mid-day and that particular shine really irritates me. so far i've used it twice and am very impressed. i suppose i will be doing a full review on this too. i will give it a few weeks as i need to see if i break out from it. - please no!-

upon entering sephora i knew i wanted a corally lipgloss, but didn't want it to be overpowering. i swatched buxom babes lacey gloss and immediately loved the color. then on closer inspection i saw that it was part of a duo with pixie (a gorgeous light pink) and i was sold. together the duo is $18. i love buying things in smaller sizes like this because i think lipgloss can get to be unhygenic after numerous uses. this way you can use them up and move onto something new. the super bonus with this is they are part of their big and healthy line which promises a fuller lip upon application. i'm not sure about that, but it has amazing dazzle factor and it does make my lips feel minty and tingly (and not cinnamon/burnt ala lip venom)... and super bonus 2... the glosses smell like cotton candy!

last, but not least was a travel size of too faced lash injection. i'm going to let you in on a little secret... i'm obsessed with mascara!! i'm am always on a quest for my perfect one... i picked this up to try it. i am planning a big mascara post so stay tuned. i've used this twice and am very pleased so far.

hello dolls! if u keep up with my blog you probably already know that i am in seattle for the weekend... well i went to seattle about two months ago and gave myself a challenge. could i get away with 6 different looks from one palette?! the palette in question is below (shown with the brushes and mascara i took) it is the too faced glamour to go palette and it retails for $19.99. it is a wonderfull palette which offers 8 eyeshadows, 4 lipglosses and a blush... as i was packing for my trip i, naturally, thought this palette to be an asset (not to mention a space saver)! here's all i took (i applied blush with my fingers).

here's the palette opened. closed it's the size of a small stack of credit cards and opened it's the size of your hand. i have numbered the colors because there are no names for the shadows. the numbers will clarify when i breakdown the looks.

hiya dolls! if you follow me on TWITTER you may know that tonight i'm off to seattle to visit my bff and her family and celebrate a certain munchkin's first birthday!

well, for my travels i (naturally) needed a new nail polish shade. after reading several posts i began fiending for "jade is the new black" from the OPI hong kong collection. unfortunately i ran to sally beauty supply and forgot that they don't carry OPI! blasphemy. haha

so i scuttled over to the china glaze display and settled on another shade in the blue green family (as i was fiending for a tealish shade)... it's called "flyin' high" and it looks alittle something like this...

hello dolls! a couple of months ago i decided to make a move toward more natural body products... at the same time i was introduced to lush and their products and, i have to say, i wasn't in love with many of the lush scents. i decided to consult etsy because i knew i could find yummy scents and homemade products for affordable prices. the bonus was that i was buying from real people!!

after hours of searching i decided to a lovely shop at ariel's secret garden i fell in love with the variety of scents and products available (including lush dupes). after reading her reviews i picked out a few goodies...

the pink smiley face goody is the luxury rock my world solid lotion bar (rock star dupe)... it came it the yellow tin (how awesome)... i use this bar everyday... smells like candy and is ultra moisturizing. the other circular goody in the upper left is the lime eucalyptus cold process olive oil soap bar. i used this up super fast because i couldn't get enough of the scent and the lather was so rich! it also came with a sample of another soap called honey i washed the kids (p.s. YUMMY) and a cute heart pendant. so sweeeeeet! i felt really happy with my purchases and also felt really valued and special as a customer... and that feeling doesn't come around very often. so, after i had used up all of the lime eucalyptus soap i went back for more.

so last week i placed another order...

cut to last night... i come home after a lovely cocktail (or 3) with a friend to find my new order waiting for me! and it was like christmas! first of all my goodies were housed in this lovely box...

and inside were my goodies!

cupcake bath bomb bubble bar scented in honey i washed the kids (lush dupe). how CUTE!! and i absolutely LOVE this scent!!! i will definitely be purchasing more of these cupcakes because they make wonderful girlie gifts!

peppermint lavender cold process soap... smells divine and i'm so excited to try this out. when it comes to soaps i have two questions... does it lather well? and does it dry my skin out? the answers are YES and NO! their soaps are amazing and lather up so much! i tried this this morning and it didn't disappoint! another winner. and bonus points... it's about the size of my hand! score!!

my first foray into konad = FAIL!

howdy dolls! let's face it as a girly girl one priority is pretty nails. looking at my hands the other day i realized i needed to kick my manicure up a notch. what to do? what to do?

after hearing much hype on youtube and other blogs about konad and their nail art and stencils i sucked it up and went on wowsocool and bought my first konad goodies... for about $20 i purchased these:

i received the stamper, scraper, special konad polish for stencils (in white) and an m57 plate which has zebra print, leopard print and fishnet stencils all on one plate! love it.

** sadly, i just checked their website and this plate is out of stock right now! boo-hoo.

i decided for my first attempt i would use the zebra stencil because, let's face it, that's why i bought this plate in the first place! ha...

so, without further adieu... here were my nails before:

ok... so it's not hideous, but i screwed up the sides and my placement was askew... cue the sad music... i consider this a fail. however, it has not deterred me and i have been told that all it takes is some practice and i'll be a konad pro in no time. stay tuned for that!!

have you tried konad's goodies and how did you faire?? at the very least using the konad was fun and i think we all could use some more fun incorporated into our days... p.s. i'm already browsing their website and looking for more plates to try!! there is more FUN to be had!

hellooooooo dolls! it's monday... time for another edition of...

today we are looking at an eyeliner from urban decay.

to be exact it's the urban decay heavy metal glitter eyeliner in midnight cowboy (goldie gold) and it's not good. they aren't kidding when they say glitter! it is chunky and very irritating to my eyes. right after application my eyes immediately begin watering. not a good sign. another minus is it is also very sparse in it's distribution of glitter... the photo above is about 7 swipes with the liner! this utterly bummed me out because i love the idea of a glittery lower lash line. unfortunately, this urban decay product just didn't make the grade. be kind to your sensitive eye area and don't do this!

on the brightside though... there is an alternative to this "here and there" glitter liner... it is urban decay's eyeshadow in maui wowie! as an eyeshadow it's atrocious... way too much glitter! but as a liner... perfection. i wet a liner brush, swipe up a bit and apply. it creates a more shimmering line with a richer color and a hint of glitter. mucho better! your lower lash line can now reflect the light more subtly and you are still able to see! another win-win!

hello there dolls! today, after many failed attempts, my friend christy and i finally made it to a mac pro store and the fun ensued... it made for a lovely saturday afternoon. here are my new goodies!

i had to buy a palette to house all of my freshly depotted shadows... then my main goal was to find the perfect pink blush and i believe i have found it in the amazing pink swoon! i said "i want a pinky-just-pinched-my cheeks-color" and i got it. deelish!

i was in the mood for some new grey shadows to add to my collection so i picked up scene (muted blue-grey -satin), print (muted grey with shimmer - satin) and the classic carbon (black - matte). i also bought the 266 brush because really nothing can compare to it when it comes to applying fluidline... and that's that.

as soon as i saw true babe i knew i had to have it!! and i'm so in love with it. what an amazing bright pink to freshen up my look. it was one of those things i didn't know i wanted until i saw it! i can not wait to do some dollfaces of the day with my new friends and show you!! hope you're enjoying a rockin' weekend!!

hello dolls! it's "what was i thinking?" monday and for this edition i present to you a lipgloss by smashbox. to be precise it's a "wicked lovely" lipgloss in the color coy and it's a waste of money! what can i say... i was lured in by the pink and black box and the sale price of $10...

i ordered it online (my mistake) and when i received it i put one swipe on my lips and closed the tube forever... it was...

no wonder it was on sale! i promised myself, then and there, that i would think twice before purchasing any lipglosses i'm not familiar with online again!

i know i have spoken about this color before, but man-oh-man i LOVE it!! it really is my go-to eyeshadow for night time smoke! alas it is mac's contrast... i just lined my lower lashline, loaded it on my lid and crease and blended out with hush by mac... alittle urban decay 24-7 liner in zero on upper lash line and bingo bango... blue smoke.

i must confess... i buy navy shirts just so i can wear this eyeshadow! tell me your absolute favorite eyeshadow colors... always on the lookout for more hg eyeshadows...

hi dolls! today is february 18th and you know what that means? another line is being released by mac today... it's called riveting. if you remember an earlier post i am looking forward to one product in particular... a matte black nail polish called black enough?... until i can get myself to a mac counter this little post dedicated to an affordable and fantabulous line of polish will have to pass the time.

i love polishing my nails. it's a quick and easy way to look put together, fab or funky. i'm always on the lookout for good polishes that cover well and dry fast...

so a couple of months back i bought a sephora by o.p.i. nail polish in metro chic. i was so looking forward to it! i had read many blogs and saw many youtube videos touting the color and its overall awesomeness, so i just had to have it.... as soon as i got it home i tried it out. to be frank it was not cute. it was thin and looked horrible with my skintone. i hated it and thought "there's another $10 wasted!"

not one to be defeated... i got to perusing my other polishes. i thought i might be able to find one that could act as an undercoat and deepen the color a bit. i came across a shade i have been loving for awhile... it's called ice queen and it's by icing. yes, icing as in the accessory store at the mall. turns out their polishes rock my world. the formulation is smooth, they cover evenly and they dry super fast. and they last forever! love them!

now back to the subject at hand. metro chic was dull and lame. ice queen was cool and deep. together they made a perfect and wearable dollnamic duo of the nail polish variety. look...

just for posterity here are two other shades from icing... i highly recommend their polishes... i guess if we're splitting hairs then this is another rave! next time you're at the mall pick up a couple (at $4.50 a pop -bogo 1/2 off- they won't break the bank)... let me know how it goes.

hi dolls! today let's have a looksie at one of my fave brands of eyeliner... like... ever! and the best part is... it's drugstore brand!! oh, oh, oh and let me take that good news one step further... they are sold 2 for $3!! SCORE!!! the gorgeous creations are by jordana (which are sold at walgreens) and they are called kohl kajal eyeliner pencils. they are just as good as the stila kohl kajal eyeliners... for 10% of the price. yay! they are smooth and blendable and have fantastic pigment... take a look.i LOVE finding me a good deal and these eyeliners are amazing for the super affordable price! i believe there are about ten colors and i have four, but will definitely be back for more!!

when i bought...
as you can see, dolls, this is the john frieda moisture barrier firm hold hairspray and i'm here to tell you... DON'T!! it's horrible! it is probably the worst hairspray i have ever used. it is like spraying dusty glue on your hair. ick. ick. ick. it flakes, it doesn't move and don't even think you will be able to get a brush through this the next day. i remember once i had to shampoo my bangs twice because they still were glued together from this gem. i suppose if we were back in the days of bee hives and backcombing this would come in handy, but when i just want to keep the flyaways at bay this product is a huge FAIL. hope your hairspray is treating you right!

hi ya dolls and happy hearts day! in honor of this day devoted to love i thought that i would dedicate this post to that which i am loving right now... it's not your typical post because it's not your typical day...

and away we go...

first up... this red and black wig! last week i celebrated my birthday with a wigged out party at a bar with an 80's band that you could karaoke to. it was major! i love this picture too! this was a mural in the bathroom! ha. i especially love that it looks like she is looking over my shoulder. so fun.

next up... i love new york. i lived there for a year and it will always hold a special place in my heart... i found this necklace at forever 21 and knew it had to be mine.

i heart urban decay eyeshadow in sellout. it is my absolute go to highlight for the brow bone. and it is the only eyeshadow that i've repurchased three times! ladies and ladies... we have a winner with this one!

i heart nars lipgloss in turkish delight. it is the best of the best. i'm not one who needs fifty lipglosses at hand... nor do i have the money to afford them! ha. instead i will spend some good money on a select few and use them up. this is a lovely shade of pink...like my lips... only better. will definitely repurchase.

last, but not least... i heart my bestie. for better or for worse. in sickness and in health... she will always be my valentine.

hi dolls! so today i'm going to launch my "what was i thinking?!" mondays... you know how mondays are?? the weekend is over and quite often there are one or two regrets from the two days that have past and you say to yourself what was i thinking? perhaps you didn't get everything done that you needed to accomplish... perhaps you drank too much or didn't stick to your diet... or liplocked with the wrong person. : )

this little gem is guacamole by mac... it is green frost color and i hate in on me! usually i adore greens, but this one is almost neon on me and it's not cute! it fact, it's obnoxiously green. it has way too much yellow undertone for my liking and that is why it sits untouched in my makeup case. i've given guacamole several opportunities to prove its worth to me and it has failed at every turn. and that is why it wins the first what was i thinking award. oh well... we all make mistakes sometime. ok dollfaces... fess up... what are some of your regrets??

a birthday wish

hi dolls! so today is my birthday and i have had the laziest of days! however, i did find time to investigate the new limited edition collection from mac being released on feb. 18 called riveting. usually these collections have one or two items that stick out to me and seem to call my name and this collection didn't disappoint. there was one product that smacked me upside the head and made me put a big heart on my calendar over february 18th!! it is one of the nail polishes... but it's not just another nail polish... it's a matte nail polish! and, what's more, it BLACK!! where do i sign? i love the look of matte nail polish and i'm really excited to try mac's take on matte black. so on the 18th black enough? shall be mine! is anyone else interested in this shade??

hi dolls! in honor of the weekend and my love for the original doll-namic duo of saturday and sunday i am dedicating this post to two colors that work together famously! as you can see they are contrast and love lace (both by mac). love lace is a light blue and with my dark features reads rather pale on my face... however once i add contrast (a rich, deep blue and one of my favorite mac shades) wham-o! more definition in the crease and outer corner!! i love this combo of colors and therefore they receive my first award of doll-namic duo!!

harsh black cateye liner... it was 8 a.m. afterall!

my birthday is officially on sunday, but my gift to myself came today! yahoo!! can you guess what it is?? i have SOOOO been looking forward to receiving my urban decay alice in wonderland book of shadows and it has arrived! to be quite honest, i bought this because i am in love with all things alice in wonderland and the fact that they have changed all of the e/s names to alice references just knocked me off my chair! LOVES IT! all in all it's a great deal... i mean 16 shadows, 2 small 24/7 eyeliners and a travel sized primer potion?! i'm in. my lovely friends at ulta also threw in a pore perfecting makeup base too. p.s. i will try this and let you know how it goes. p.p.s. don't you heart the free samples?! ha.

ok... back to the b.o.s.

first thoughts: the colors are pretty fantastic. i am such a fan of urban decay shadows... however, i will not be using curiouser any time soon! the swatch doesn't read very well, but it is way too glittery for me! white rabbit is glittery too, but less so and i'm predicting the rabbit will be easier to work with. i am loving wonderland... like LOVING it!! it's a gorgeous metallic gold color. and i can't wait to use alice! the rose colored queen might be difficult for me, but i am determined to find a way or off with my head!

first thoughts: these two rows are much more my speed! omg! vorpal is a silver that i will definitely be able to work with. the green wonder absolem is absolutely amazing! midnight tea party is another one that is too glitterific for me, the rather matte-ish chocolate brown mad hatter fully makes up for it. but hands down my favorite color has got to be mushroom! omg! it's a taupish that errs on the side of gray and is incredibly versatile!! i'm in love.

hi dolls! i am so excited to say i have 11 followers now! ok maybe that's lame and it doesn't sound like alot, but to me it's frickin' awesome! so i've decided to have a contest and give away a little goodie from lush!

for my first product rave i wanted it to be something so kick*ss. so amazing. so tried and true that i just had to shout from the rooftops... "THIS ROCKS!!" and that is exactly what i have for you dolls...

this gem is the eyeshadow jealous jordana from the shady lady range of the brand the balm. let me tell you the balm = THE BOMB! i have several of their eyeshadows and the pigmentation is ridiculous! they are so incredibly rich in color and depth. if you are like me and love a deep, dark eye you MUST give their eyeshadows a try (the balm products are sold at sephora if you're wondering).

you may be asking why jealous jordana? well, as a brown eyed doll i absolutely LOVE doing my eyes in varying shades of green because they make my eyes go BOING! i stumbled upon this color in sephora a couple of years ago, swatched it and was instantly in love. it is a rich emerald green with tiny flecks of blue... don't worry though... these flecks provide a subtle shimmer not urban decay glitterocity! i will be posting a look i did with jealous jordana soon and you can have a looksie.

a word to the wise though... when i say deep color i mean DEEP COLOR. this shade is not for the faint of heart or the heavy of hand. to understand what i mean take a look at the pic above... that product on my finger was from touching (touching not swiping) jealous jordana twice! it is an amazing color for the crease and outer corner or to deepen a neutral look. just remember to tap off the excess before applying to lids and use just a bit at a time and build up to your desired depth (and blend, blend, blend my sistas). or just wet a brush, swipe some j.j. and use it as an eyeliner.

i think jealous jordana might just be my favorite... don't tell my other eyeshadows! wouldn't want to make them jealous! : )

hello dolls!

my name is ann a.k.a. anniedollface and this is not just another beauty blog... it's my beauty blog. i have to admit i LOVE many forms of creativity, but makeup is probably my favorite. i plan on allowing this blog to evolve with me and my readers. i will have reviews of products, dollface challenges, contests, dollfaces of the day and whatever else happens to tickle my fancy. i absolutely love reading other beauty blogs and thought i should give it a try... i do not think that i am perfect nor am i professional makeup artist... i just think makeup is fun and i love to play.

for my first ever blog post i thought i would give you some insight into me as a person and let you know some things that inspire me.

NEW YORK CITY!!!

i lived in new york for a year and fell in love with it. there is no other place like it on earth. it inspires me to no end. the hustle. the bustle. the noise, the smog, the attitudes! from the moment you step outside you are bombarded with colors and lights... you can have anything you want at anytime. the diversity and general acceptance of that diversity is almost palpable. i was born and bred in california, but new york is my home away from home and where i live in my heart. it's energy has inspired me in countless ways, not the least of which being to come back to california and finish my BA in psychology (which i just completed). nyc smacks you across your face everyday and will never apologize. (here i am smack dab in the middle of times square)

Lady Ga Ga

i love this woman. i listen to her music almost religiously and study her makeup looks like a picasso painting. the main thing i adore about her is she understands the business of celebrity like few others. she is a walking piece of art and can singlehandedly get her name in the paper just by choosing an outfit of the day. oh the power. she is fearless! also she has almost a cult of followers who mimic her style and imitate her dance moves and that can't be all bad. however, the main reason she inspires me is that she encourages people to be themselves and to not try to squeeze themselves into some construct or stereotype and for that i (and countless others) thank her.

MAC

oh mac how much do i love thee?? let me count the ways. i don't have to tell you that in the way of cosmetics mac is definitely a leader. from neutrals.... to smokey eyes... to crazy "balls out" looks there is most assuredly something at the mac counter to suit your fancy. i love that they are constantly debuting limited edition colors and products and encouraging the evolution of my palettes! mac inspires me to try new things and appreciate the variety of colors and textures. and it shouldn't go without saying that mac inspires me to not give up on my old eyeshadows... they might be hiding a fantastical look i just haven't discovered yet.

photography

i love pictures! i love conceptualizing, styling and the finish product. and i have the utmost respect for photographers like mario testino, annie leibovitz, herb ritts (r.i.p.) and david lachapelle (the photographer of this pic). i can't get enough of his pictures. although a small warning here... if you go searching for his pics be prepared for nudity! he has a clearly defined point of view. to me he is like a spoiled child and i love him for it. his use of color and visual imagery takes my breath away. the attention to detail and the fact that the entire frame is filled show me exactly how well thought out his photographs are. i appreciate that. his shots seem to come from a place of satire, sarcasm and sadistic whimsy. you are never quite sure what you are looking at. first, he pulls you in with the pretty colors and cool makeup... then you begin to see what's really going on in the picture and that's how he grabs you! he inspires me to keep things interesting and mysterious and leave people with just enough of a question mark that they feel compelled to take a second look...

that's kind of my hope for this blog really.
